Gaziantep Art Center


Gaziantep Government House, which entered service in 1955, has also been home to the Gaziantep Courthouse  during its period of use and has a place in the minds as an important symbol of city memory with its location and architecture. The building which best reflects the architecture of the Republican era has lost its function with the relocation of the Government Hall and the Adliye in recent years and has been left in an idle state. Projects for the restoration work started in 2015 were completed in and the construction process started. Project Architect Erden Guven, who was at the beginning during the implementation process, gave design decisions for keeping the previous functions of the building spreading to a total construction area of ​​10.000 m² within the process as a memory trace and at the same time being able to serve the new functions to be best served at the same time  to design and implement it. In the renovation works as an architectural concept, they were referenced to the cultural heritage of the multi-tiered and thousands of years, sitting on the city of Gaziantep  from the ancient city of Dülük. The project architect who acquired the mission of combining these polyphonic sentences into a single language created the conceptual language in this regard, while the general theme of the mosaic culturism, which was inspired by the unique mosaic language of Zeugma Antique City and formed by a common language expression together with amorphous parts, materials and metal profiles. Instead of stone with poured mosaic technique, approximately 100 tons of tempered glass fragments were used in flooring. At the same time, emphasizes the ‘past’ and ‘experience’ of building metal profiles that are used in applications on ceilings, floors and walls, which are rusted by chemical techniques that are not harmful to human health. In addition to this, the flooring borders made from the same waste glass materials were handled by the dependent children in the Street Children Rehabilitation Center in Gaziantep City and the female guests in the Women’s Shelter, together with the work done for reconciliation with the social life and occupational acquisitions, technique.
